Embarking on Do-It-Yourself projects has become more convenient because of the many tools that make construction work more efficient. Decking pedestals are heavy-duty screw jack pedestals used in decking or building an elevated surface. It functions as stable deck support, the same way a pillar upholds frames for decking structures. It is frequently used in conjunction with roof terraces, pedestrian walkways, balconies, roof gardens, sun decks, plaza decks, podium landscapes, pool surrounds, and verandas.
Decking pedestals are an efficient and cost-effective alternative to brick piers. Installation is simple and straightforward. They are lightweight, can be easily installed in less time, and with less equipment, regardless of what the surface levels are underneath. It is a new way of decking but has quickly grown in popularity due to its versatile and sustainable solutions in supporting raised pavers and timber decking.
Straightforward Installation
Decking pedestal designs aim to reduce the necessary materials and efforts in building a deck and allow ready access to maintenance and repairs, reducing lifetime maintenance cost. Screw jack pedestals eliminate the need to dig to level the surface, to lay cement, and to install timber support-post. With its high load-bearing capacity and adjustable height, it provides an easy and practical solution to fix slopes and slants to make deck construction less costly.
Ease of Installation & Flexibility in Maintenance
From the perspective of architects and engineers, getting things done right the first time is very important when it comes to paving and decking. Ineffective waterproofing and having no ready access for maintenance and repairs can lead to significant damages and can be a nightmare for the builders, investors, and occupants.
The good thing about pedestals is that it is not only durable and stable but, not bulky, is easy to install and uninstall, provides ready access for maintenance and repairs.
It also makes it ideal for reuse as well as for non-permanent exhibition flooring. With decking pedestals, the use of nails, screwdrivers, and screws that can potentially damage Waterproof Membrane (WPM) are not necessary. It also makes submerging, piercing, or the conduct of any interference to the WPM that can cause eventual problems unnecessary.
How Do You Use It?
Decking Pedestals are easy to use. First, measure the total area to be paved to determine the number of beams required. Place the pedestals based on the manufacturer recommended distance for each sub-frame.
Position the pedestals under the beam. Adjust its height by turning the screw jack up or down. Screw the beam into the eyelet on the top of the pedestal or tie the beam to it to ensure stable floor support.
Other Tips on Installation
To ensure that the paver is even, use the rubber shims that go with it. The inclinator on the pedestal can also be used to avoid any fall in the slab.
Decking pedestals that have no tabs are placed on edges and corners that need to be supported. Continue paving by placing the first paver in a corner, followed by positioning other pavers on the wall edge.
Pedestals are not only durable, cost-efficient, and easy to use. They significantly lessen sound transmission, augment the insulation of heat, and keep unsightly services out of sight and confined under the elevated platform, providing easy access if needed. Pedestals are also commonly used with most pavers such as marble, porcelain, precast concrete, and granite.
